I need to get some money from my folks to cover an unexpected expense. They’ve agreed to send it, but we’re just trying to figure out the most cost-effective way to transfer a few grand.

I know my credit union can accept checks via an image, so I was wondering if I could get an image of the check and then use my CU’s app to deposit it. I’d try it, but my account is currently frozen.

The other best option seems to be a wire transfer, but that’ll be $25 on their end and $10 on mine. Is there a better, faster, cheaper way of doing this?

Do you have online banking? I know Interac offers e-transfers, and some banks allow you to straight deposit from one account to another if you know their account number.

Can they directly transfer it to your account online if they have your bank routing number? Just had $500 sent to me this way, came into my account like a paycheck getting direct deposited.

Squarecash is another option. You directly link a debit card to it, and it’s directly deposited.

I have used paypal to settle up with friends before, as well as just online baking.

Roll ot all up and put it in a plastic bag, suck the air out. Then put in an other bag and suck the air out. Now get a big cheap candle. Cut the bottom off and hollow it out. Fill the void with cash. Melt the wax you dug out and pour back into candle, also using wax to seal bottom. Now get a flat rate box and ship it.

Pop Money. You'll have to look up if it's good for your uses but I've had very good experiences using it.

This. PayPal has a “friends and family” option that transfers cash at no cost.

Paypal is good if you both have paypal.

Walmart is another option. The sender pays for it his/her Walmart along with a nominal fee (I think it was like 5$ when I did it), and the recipient can pick it up. The sender has to specificy a particular Walmart for pickup, and they give him/her a code that they must provide to the recipient. That all there is too it. I think they’ll even take a credit card on the sender’s end.

My bank allows you to send money to other bank members with no fee. Do you guys use the same bank? Might be worth looking into. Also if you paypal as friends and family there is no fee.

Thanks to all for the replies. I had dad sent me an image of the front and back of the check, and I used that to use the scan and deposit function of my credit union’s app. Other than discovering a daily deposit limit and needing replacement checks less than that amount, it went off without a hitch. It was a little extra work, but considering the lowest cost we were looking at was $35, it was worth it to save that money.
